The Caring House
Caring House Addition | Durham, NC
Project Overview
Frank Land Design provided comprehensive civil engineering, permitting, and landscape architecture services for the Caring House Addition, a mission-driven project supporting Duke University and The Caring House in Durham, North Carolina. The project involved the expansion of an existing facility within the City of Durham and required a high level of coordination with municipal agencies, utility providers, and the broader design team.
Working closely with Project Strategy Advisors, the owner, and the architect, our team guided the project through complex site constraints, utility considerations, and City of Durham Level 4 Site Plan review. The result was a clear, approvable path forward for construction while maintaining sensitivity to the site, surrounding infrastructure, and regulatory requirements.
Our Role
Frank Land Design served as the civil engineer and landscape architect of record, providing services from early site plan updates through permitting, construction documentation, and construction administration. Our scope included civil site design, stormwater and erosion control, fire flow and hydraulic analysis, pump station evaluation, and code-compliant landscape and tree preservation planning.
Results
Frank Land Design delivered a coordinated and permit-ready civil and landscape design package that supported the Caring House’s expansion goals while meeting City of Durham and NCDOT requirements. Through careful planning, analysis, and agency coordination, the project established a solid foundation for construction and long-term facility use.
